この歌を初めて聴いたのは、DIANA KRALLのAll For You(A Dedication To The Nat King Cole Trio)というＣＤでした。タイトル通りの、いわゆるSad Songという感じの曲で、ギターとピアノ。そして彼女の歌声がなんともうら悲しく、たまらなくセンチメンタルなのです。ＣＤサブタイトルからNat King Cole Trioの元歌があるに違いないとweb上でいろいろ探していくうちに、素性が明らかになってきました。1950年にTony Bennett が歌い、ベスト盤に収録されていること、Nat King Cole TrioのＣＤはどうもなさそうであることなど。 Boulevard Of Broken Dreams OrchestraやJan GarberなどのＣＤがあること。Brian Setzer Orchestra の同名異曲があること。タイトルに惹かれたのか、アートや詩にも同名のものがあることなど、Web上に様々のものがありました。とりあえず、Nat King Coleの歌声をもう少し探してみようと思います。
