It is a cool idea that they pretend fictious band themselves
and record their performance. So many horn section sounds are
used here and there, the contrast between brass sound and heavy
guitar sound is cool. The drum pattern at the guitar phrase sounds
is heavy eighth note rhythm with half opened hi-hat, however
the drum pattern at the brass phrase sounds is very faint. So
various sounds are used though this song is rock music, it seems
that they show new concept of the album what no one has done
before.

This song starts with introducing Billy Shears who is pretended
by Ringo. The bass line is very characteristic, many phrases
just like obbligato are used everywhere. The tone of bass is
also solid. And the solo tom phrase after the guitar phrase at
the end of the first verse is simple but rhythmic. Though it
has a few notes, it is not easy to express that feelings and
make such a drum sound.

The lyric is so visionary, the sound too. It seems that the
introduction is played with harpsichord, however its sound is
not harpsichord but organ. The various sounds included John's
guitar are effected here and there. The factor that shows visionary
feelings should be the modulations that change key twice in a
verse. The verse at the beginning of vocal has A major key, but
it changes to Bb major from "Cellophane flowers of ...",
moreover it changes key to D major from the chorus "Lucy
in the ...". The most coolest sound would be tamboura just
like sitar used in the latter half of this song.

After the introduction that begins with rhythmic guitar chord
of quarter notes, the vocal line with the march style snare drum
is impressive. This guitar rhythm pattern by high quarter notes
is used everywhere in this song, it is important factor that
characterizes this song. Moreover, the bass line is well considered,
so the contrast with previous guitar pattern and this bass line
is very cool. Also the tamboura is used from "I used to
be...", it gives variations to this song structure.

The introduction begins with simple harpsichord phrase unusually.
The melody makes us feel sad even though its key is major. And
the guitar rif that is sometimes played is very cool. Especially,
the rhythmic guitar phrase from "See the people standing
there..." supports vocal melody. Because all the vocal phrases
at that part have same notes during four measures. And the guitar
solo comes as if to say it is major scale, it pulls songs strongly
with syncopated rhythm in the latter half of solo. Paul also
plays rhythmic phrase with bass like his other songs.

This has the classical arrangement by only strings and harp.
However, Unlike Eleanor Rigby, this song has little fast tempo
and is made with the feelings like singing slowly. Paul and John
take turns singing from the chorus "She...is leaving...home...",
John sings melody at the first half of the chorus, then Paul
sings melody at the latter half of the chorus.

This is my favorite song. It does not seem clear which the
scale of melody line is major or minor. So it is very cool melody
what no one can never create. Moreover, Ringo only plays kick
drums and hi-hat with his drums, the music style changes to real
waltz after "...waltz", and it is visionary with mixing
various sounds at the solo part after that. It surprises us by
the break with loud piano chord, and is cool that it changes
to 4/4 time signature at the 2nd block. BTW, Why do they play
the unison phrase with out of tempo at the ending? It seems to
express the brightness of the ending of circus, doesn't it?

Composed by George. The sitar is used mainly just like Love
You To, so this is also Indian music. This song has nice melody
line, and you can find that solo line is same as the verse but
its tempo changes to double the verse's. The time signature is
not only 4/4 but also strange one at the end of the verse. This
song has no clear rhythm just like the drums, so the downstroke
of the beat would hardly be caught.

Somehow the backing performance by three clarinets is heartwarming.
I think that soft tone by wood harmonizes well with the lyric.
The Beatles is a rock band but they takes acoustic sound just
like Eleanor Rigby or Yesterday aggressively. This is also a
precious song that you can find their various musical feelings
in this album.

The introduction by the piano and acoustic guitar is refreshing.
The vocal line at the beginning is same as the chorus, and has
typical triple harmony. After that, Paul takes solo, and the
strange sound just like a violin that is used as obbligato is
very impressive. They say that the strange sound is made from
human voice. The fine passage in this song is the backing harmony
that begins with quarter notes from the middle of 2nd block.
This harmony is very cool. Also the honky-tonk piano sound in
the solo matches well with this song. In contrast with that,
the ending has strange arrangement. Ringo plays dragging beat
by snare drum slightly, so it seems to brake the eighth notes
of bass line.

Anyway this song changes time signature so many times. From
the beginning of vocal, the time signature is 5/4, after four
measures it changes to 2/4, then 4/5, 4/4, 2/4. Also there is
3/4 in 2nd block. You may catch wrong beat if you do not listen
to rhythm count very carefully. The compressed sound of brass
section is featured on the whole, a rhythmic phrase sound is
characteristic.

This song is same as the first song in this album, but this
has faster tempo and lighter vocal line, so the feelings of this
song is different from the first one. Also the key has replaced
from G major to F major at this song. Moreover, the vocal line
has triple harmony from beginning to end. So it does not give
only straight feeling but also heavy feelings just like the first
song. By taking such this song at the end of the album, the total
concept of this album is made to be clearer.

This song does not have nothing to talk about. This song can
be divided into two pieces. Those are the part that John takes
vocal mainly at first and the other part Paul takes vocal mainly
after an alarm clock went off, and are different from each other
originally. BTW, it is progressive and creative that they used
the orchestra sound for not only performance but also direction.
The orchestra sound that is going up to higher tone little by
little at the middle or end of this song gives us high tension
and great expection. And the long reverberations and strong chord
play by three pianos at the end should be a dramatic scene for
end of this album.
